Runoff management: difficult to move from words to action!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERARenaissance Brome Lake participated in the public consultation meeting on the management of surface water organized by the MRC Brome-Missisquoi on Monday, August 18, 2014.

If everyone agrees on the need to better manage surface water, particularly because of erosion and damage to public and private infrastructures, it is clear that concrete actions require much consultation and political courage.

RLB is particularly disappointed by the timidity of the proposed measures with regards to shorelines and protecting mountain peaks. On the other hand, some initiatives are to be applauded, including the protection of wooded land and measures to promote the infiltration of water on properties.

Hopefully the mayors and the MRC will take the bold and necessary actions that will in turn allow the MRC to become a leader in the field of runoff management, which is essential to the water quality of our lakes and rivers.
