Happy Holidays! The year 2013 was a pretty good one!

The year 2013 was a pretty good one for us and our beloved lake. The quality of the water remained at an acceptable level and there were few episodes of cyanobacteria other than those we are familiar with, usually appearing at the beginning of autumn. At the end of September, a major “flowering” on the water surface was noticed across the lake and it lasted for several days.

The most eventful happening of the past summer was the inappropriate lowering of the lake starting at the beginning of July, until mid September: the lake was 15 inches lower than its normal level.  This is an unacceptable situation which caused a lot of grief to shoreline residents , boaters and general water sport’s buffs. In addition, the low level of the lake undoubtedly had an effect on wildlife and plant species and this is shown in the strong presence of aquatic plants which were noted. It should be noted that Ville de Lac-Brome manages the level of the lake from the Foster dam and that RBL made several efforts to have the situation corrected.

We would like to thank all the citizens who respect the rules and who adopt responsible behaviour practices in terms of respecting the shoreline, the non-use of fertilizers, tree cutting, motor boat circulation and ensuring that their septic installations are in good working order. Together we will give back to the lake and other water bodies a state of complete health.

During this joyous Holiday Season, Renaissance Brome Lake and its board of directors wishes each and everyone of you health and peace ; may our community engagement and respect for our way of life continue to guide everyone’s actions.
