Putting in place successful projects to improve the quality of the water rests squarely on the effectiveness of the collaborative efforts between several players. Several Quebec government ministries are part of the process and provide:
- regulations covering proper septic tank installations;
- tracking of contaminated bodies of water;
- funding for pilot projects (run-off management, erosion control or stabilization measures for banks).
The MRC has the responsibility to establish a policy to manage water courses and to do the tracking to this effect.
The municipalities of Bolton-Ouest, Canton de Shefford, Stukely-Sud and ville de Lac-Brome adopt the by-laws concerning the improvement of the water quality, taking into account the:
- Naturalisation and protection of shorelines;
- Measures needed to control erosion;
- Use of pesticides and fertilizers;
- Proper maintenance of septic installations;
- Protection of wetlands and other bodies of water.
