RLB 2011 Activities Report

We were expecting that the 2011 season would not be a good one, much like the terrible year we suffered through in 2006. The water temperature was very high: 260 C on July 20, an all-time record. Water transparency was, on average, 2.3 metres instead of the historical average of 3.3 metres. Throughout the season, there was a great deal of suspended material in the water.

The phosphorous content still largely exceeds the…Read more >>>

Shrubs 2012

Sunday April 1, 10 youth under the supervision of Isabelle Valois, Municipal Inspector of Brome Lake, have worked very hard to "uproot" 4500 dogwoods and ensure the preparation of shrubs that will be planted this year on the river banks and the lake.

Within approximately one month, planting of 7 500 shrubs should begin. Congratulations on this initiative by the MRC Brome-Missisquoi, the OBV-Yamaska and Town of Brome Lake. Double congratulations to young…Read more >>>

Coldbrook stream and the West-Bolton sector: a worrisome preoccupation!

Nouvelle rue au Mont Foster!

Coldbrook stream carries more than 25% of all the water which flows into Brome Lake. The source of this water is found in the mountainous sector of west Brome, mainly from   Foster and Glen mountains. In recent times we have noted that the water in the stream is of a lesser quality; in addition, a host of real estate development projects are underway in this sector.

In parallel, the MRC Brome-Missisquoi would like to modify its zoning plan…Read more >>>

First-time inventories of the Brome Lake wetlands regions

In June, July and August 2011, Renaissance Brome Lake coordinated three biodiversity inventories. These studies, carried out with the most knowledgeable specialists in Quebec in the particular fields, sought to better know the range of wildlife inhabiting the wetlands along the lake, to better justify their protection, notably through the creation of named eco-zones to then identify them in the zoning plan and thereby ensuring their complete protection. Three inventory reports were prepared.…Read more >>>

Another Happening in the Colibris File!

The Town of Brome Lake council recently met to reconsider the Colibris pier file and accordingly modified the mandate of the town's lawyer. In December of 2011, the members of the council agreed that the municipal bylaw be respected, that is to say that the pier cannot exceed 30 metres in length, measured from the shoreline. It is therefore no longer necessary to request the court to clarify the situation and rights of each person. As a result,…Read more >>>

Consultations on the urban plan: next meeting will be in march

It is important for each and everyone of us to express our opinion about Ville de Lac-Brome's future urban plan. This document will set out several rules for occupying the territory and they will be put in place in the coming years and have an impact on the eventual evolution and health of the lake.

To get feedback, the town organized a public consultation on Saturday, January 21.  More than 50 changes were…Read more >>>

Water quality: an average year!

The clarity of the water was not as good in  2011, when compared with the historic average. This is due to the presence of suspended materials caused by the heavy rains of May and June. The average water clarity reading in 2011 was 2.3 metres, compared with 3.3 metres in recent years. Of special note is the severe degradation this past summer of Coldbrook, the second most important tributary.
